PRESCHOOL PROGRAM


Abilene Christian Schools' Pre-K program emphasizes a language-rich environment and a strong phonics program. We build on the education base with engaging activities, projects, free play, and field trips that teach a wide variety of information and skills including the following:
  • Music (songs, musical instruments, fingerplays, and several choral performances a year)
  • Art (original arts and crafts, as well as exposure to classical artists and creations "in the style of...")
  • Reading (story telling, story reading, poetry and nursery rhymes)
  • Mathmatics and number sense
  • Orientation in time and space
  • Science (discovery of God's world)
  • Gross and fine motor skills (P.E., handwriting, cutting, painting, etc.)
  • Bible stories (including a "scripture of the week")
  • Peace Making Skills for Little Kids (empowering children to cope when they encounter a negative situation)
  • Computer Literacy

A strong basis for our Pre-K is called the Core Knowledge Preschool Program. This program for four and five year olds is specifically designed to provide your child with the solid foundation he or she will need for later learning in kindergarten and beyond. The Core Knowledge Preschool Curriculum is based on scientific research about how young children learn, as well as research into the best preschool practices around the world.
 
Our Core Knowledge Curriculum focuses on identifying specific goals in all areas of learning, setting high expectations for all children, and teaching the specific content knowledge and skills that will allow children to be successful in the future.
